The Shop at Sly Corner and The Woman in the Window
Inspired by a few film noir movies including
This is a large piece, a street scene, encompassing a road, sidewalk, shop and
side and back alleyway.
The road is a worn cobblestone in washed
out grey tones and the same colour scheme
for the sidewalk was used, only the pavement
stones are very large.
The sidewalk wraps around the left of the
shop and to the right of the shop is an
archway leading into the alley.
The walls of the shop and alley are worn
washed out grey brick and the alley itself has
a different random cobblestone on the
ground.
The Antique Shop has washed out
dark green trim, window and door
and the same colour is used on
the laser cut hanging street sign
“Lamplighter Alley”.
The roof of the shop is removeable.
There is a battery operated Victorian
LED hanging lamp and another brighter LED has been
popped onto the ceiling to illuminate the shop.
A backdrop of a second hand /antique store has been placed
on the back wall and I have constructed some steps with
hand rail to give the appearance of having to walk up to the
second level (backdrop) of the shop. These have been
stained in oak.
The shop has all manner of interesting
furniture, clocks, pictures and knick knacks.
The fireplace has a small orange bulb.
In the shop window are more antiques but the
main feature is the painting as seen in “The
Woman in the Window”.
Another Victorian lamp hangs from the alley
entrance and upon entering this is where you
will find the open door of the antique shop.
There are two battery operated LED
wall lamps in the alley and another
laser cut sign, this one with
“Antiques” on the front, situated
beside the shop door.
I have made a number of advertising
boards, with images/ products of the
period and each of these has a
wood backing. These have been
placed all around the side and back of the alley.
The alley itself is littered with….well,
litter….crumpled newspapers blowing about in the
wind, upturned rubbish bins with food spilling out,
rusty bucket and tub, mischievous cats and mice and
some faux rusted corrugated iron leaning in the
corner.
As you walk through the alley there is another small
arched entry/exit which connects to the sidewalk.
A 12V streetlamp can be found on the corner.
There are a few things happening on the street itself.
A rather dapper figure
is staring at the
beguiling painting in the
window whilst a little
street urchin peeks
around the corner
waiting for an
opportunity to do a spot
of pickpocketing.
A man pushing a heavy cart laden with a piano heads
towards the shop, whilst a car is parked, waiting, on the
road.
It’s dark and it’s late……………..
